PHEMC 2004
The plans for the 2004 conference promise some exciting new developments. For the first time, we are calling for free papers*. Also, in response to feedback after the 2003 conference, we have workshops available on the first day. We have moved to a waterside venue for the first time. The general format has been preserved. We feel that the Horizon lecture is an important feature. This is a topic of relevance to medicine, but also of interest to partners of delegates and intended to broaden the outlook of the audience.

The strong focus on plenary sessions remains. Topics have once more been chosen from feedback supplied by previous attendees, and requested of presenters with known expertise in the relevant fields. As usual, the conference is deliberately placed in the NSW school holidays, leading up to the long weekend, so that families can accompany delegates. Social functions are designed to let the broader medical community get together. There was discussion over a possible name change since many delegates come from tertiary referral hospitals as well as peripheral ones. But we have kept with the formula that has been warmly supported in the past. And, of course, everyone with an interest in emergency medicine is most welcome.
